Confirmation

A Catholic bishop in green and gold vestments holds a censer, releasing incense smoke, during a church service. An altar server stands nearby. A candle and open book are in the foreground.
A young person with curly hair and a red rose pinned to their shirt sits beside an older man applauding in a crowded indoor gathering, with blurred people in the background.
A young woman in a white dress stands at a marble podium with a microphone, reading or speaking. She has long blonde hair and wears a red and white corsage. The background features vertical metal pipes.
A bishop in green vestments and miter stands holding a crosier, flanked by two priests in green and three women in white choir robes, posing inside a church.
A bishop in green robes blesses a young girl during a church ceremony, gently placing his hand on her forehead. The girl has her eyes closed and wears a white dress with a name tag and a red rose. Stained glass is visible in the background.
Confirmation is one of the three special sacraments that welcomes a person as a full member of the Catholic Church. It perfectly completes the journey started with Baptism. During Confirmation, the promises made at Baptism are reinforced, and the gifts of the Holy Spirit are given. This empowers individuals to go out and share the message of Christ, much like how the apostles were sent out after Pentecost. It’s a beautiful way to deepen your faith and connect with the community!

For Adults?

Order of Christian Initiation for Adults (OCIA) (18 years old and over)  is offered once a year. The sessions meet once per week in the evenings.  Sessions typically begin in late August or early September and end at Easter.   To register for A OCIA reparation, please contact Laura Wyatt at (304) 425-3664.

Sponsors:
Each person inquiring about the faith will be matched with a Catholic sponsor who will guide them throughout their journey. A sponsor is an individual who has been baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Church, is at least 16 years old, actively participates in the Eucharist and Reconciliation sacraments, and engages in ministry. Sponsors can attend classes alongside you and may also accompany you to weekly Mass to help you become acquainted with the Sacred Heart community. If you have a specific Catholic individual in mind that you would like to journey with, please inform the OCIA Director.  Please note that sponsors cannot be your parent, spouse, fiancé/e, boyfriend, or girlfriend.
There are parish volunteers ready to assist in this role. If you’re unsure of a Catholic to select as your sponsor, we can pair you with a member of our parish community.
