First Holy Communion

First Holy Communion is a special milestone in a child’s journey of faith. It’s the second of the three Sacraments of Initiation—Baptism, First Communion, and Confirmation—that help make a person a full member of the Catholic Community. This beautiful sacrament, known as the Eucharist, is all about celebrating the real presence of Christ in the bread, wine, and our community when we gather together.
The Eucharist is a vital and cherished part of Catholic life, and it’s something we celebrate every week! Each Sunday, we come together for Mass as the Body of Christ, receiving the nourishing gift of Jesus’ body and blood. When we leave Mass, we carry this incredible gift with us, sharing God’s love and the joyful message of Jesus with everyone we meet.
Regular participation in Communion is encouraged for all Catholics. Typically, First Communion happens during second grade. Preparation for First Holy Communion is a two-year journey that starts with enrolling in the Faith Formation program. To ensure your child can receive their First Holy Communion in second grade, they need to be enrolled in Faith Formation during first grade. The program runs from September to May.
If you’re an adult who has been baptized and would like to celebrate your First Communion, we warmly invite you to join our OCIA process! To get started, simply reach out to the church office at (304) 425-3664. We can’t wait to hear from you!
